How to Freeze a Whole Deer

    • 1). Clean the carcass as you would like it preserved.

    • 2). Wrap it in freezing paper. Butcher shops often sell this paper, which helps to prevent freezer burn.

    • 3). Make as much extra room as possible in your chest freezer and set the temperature as low as possible. More air means more circulation, leading to faster freezing. Flash-freezing of meats requires at least -15 degrees Fahrenheit. Try to arrange at least 1 cubic foot of freezer space for every 3 pounds of deer.

    • 4). Place the carcass in the freezer. Once frozen through, the temperature can be increased slightly to save electricity.
