A Kenmore Side-by-Side Refrigerator Ice Maker That Is Not Working
- The ice maker on a Kenmore refrigerator is connected to a water supply line. If this line becomes damaged--for example, from a burst pipe--or is not installed correctly, the ice maker may stop working. A Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator ice maker is typically controlled with a power switch; if this switch is turned off, the ice maker is no longer able to operate. Additionally, a part may fail or break, causing the ice maker to stop working.
- Switch the ice maker power switch to the on (I) position, sometimes marked with an "l" symbol. Kenmore freezers must usually reach 15 degrees Fahrenheit before the ice maker can start producing ice. Ice production can take as long as 12 to 24 hours when the ice maker is first switched on. Check the water supply line for loose connections or damage to the lines. Verify that the shutoff valve is fully open.
- If the simple fixes do not return the ice maker to working order, it may require repair. Kenmore's ice makers consist of several parts including switches and gears. If any of these parts break, it may prevent the ice maker from working. Repairs are a more complex undertaking that you should reserve for a qualified appliance repair person, unless you feel competent to make repairs.
- Kenmore offers repair and warranty service for its appliances through its Sears Home Services. For repairs, contact Sears directly for further assistance. When calling Sears, be ready with the side-by-side refrigerator's model name and number to receive quicker service.
