How to Reupholster Office Furniture

    • 1). Repair any desk or workstation surfaces that are wood and peeling. Simply strip and sand it, then stain the wood and varnish or lacquer it. Before you work on the wood, remove the upholstery. Keep the removed upholstery to act as a pattern when you cut the new upholstery.

    • 2). Select an appropriate upholstery fabric for the type of office you're running and in a color and style that will match the office's decor. The use of color is perfectly acceptable in some businesses. Make sure the fabric you choose is of high quality so that it will last for years of heavy use. Medium-weight fabrics are a good option.

    • 3). Replace any seat cushions before you reupholster the fabric. If you're looking for a sustainable way to reupholster your office furniture, be sure to select foam that hasn't been treated with bioaccumulative. Natural latex foam is a good option and is also very durable.

    • 4). Place the removed pieces of upholstery on the new fabric and use the pieces as a pattern to help you cut the correct sized pieces. Give yourself an extra inch around the edges for give. Staple the upholstery to the furniture. Treat the new upholstery with a stain guard if desired.
