Colectivaizeishon by Daniel Tunnard
About Daniel Tunnard:
Upon reading and/or meeting Daniel Tunnard you immediately sense a sharp wit and hyper-active creativity. The British expat has been living in Buenos Aires since 1999. He performs occasionally at Second Story Buenos Aires and GinGo Stand Up (comedy in English).
Three years ago Tunnard challenged himself to take all 140 bus lines in Buenos Aires. 200 pesos worth of coins and many a long bus wait later - he's finished.
It wasn't just for long window gazes and a numbed bum, though. Tunnard is now finishing up a book and set to film a documentary about the project called Colectivaizeishon.
Colectivaizeishon: Book & Documentary:
Buenos Aires Colectivos
If you've ever taken a bus (called colectivo) in Buenos Aires, then you know taking 140 of them is truly a challenge. Even just figuring out which one to take can be a slog. These fileteado covered beasts bump, wheeze, and whistle their way through the entire city of Buenos Aires often times packed from front to back with passengers pressed against one another.
A book about buses...but not really
Colectivaizeishon is the end product of Tunnard's bus adventures. However, in this interview with BA Local Tours guide, Jonathan Evans, Tunnard reveals that, really, it isn't about buses.
"People think this is a book about the buses of Buenos Aires. It isn’t. I haven’t worked out what it is about yet, but it’s more interesting than buses. It’s essentially a string of random observations, sarcastic comments and the occasional pleasantry for the easily-offended Argentines."
One thing is for certain: Colectivaizeishon is funny.
You'll learn about Buenos Aires, and its buses of course, but you'll also laugh at Tunnard's wit and bits of personal memoir.
Chapter & Book Availability
Tunnard has published about forty of the chapters of Colectivaizeishon on his blog, but there are another hundred still left to write. The book should be ready by September 2012 and will be an e-book that you can download from Amazon or I-tunes.
Documentary
Colectivaizeishon: The Documentary will be shot between September and October 2012 in which Tunnard will be filming his experiences on what he considers the most exciting twenty buses.
Colectivaizeishon in the Press:
Tunnard is bilingual, so it makes sense that Colectivaizeishon is as well. His dispatches of Colectivaizeishon were serialized in two online newspapers the Argentina Independent (in English) and La Razon (in Spanish). You can find both versions on his website as well:
- Argentina Independent: Colectivaizeishon: The Brit Who Took all the Buses in Buenos Aires
- La Razon: El inglés que sí tomó todos los colectivos de Buenos Aires
- Daniel Tunnard Website: The idiot who really did take all the buses in Buenos Aires
