How to: Help Making Flower Arrangements

    • 1). Measure the interior of the base of your vase. Your measurement should include width, height and depth.

    • 2). Measure the floral foam to the dimensions collected from Step 1. Add 1 inch to the depth measurement. Cut the foam to the appropriate dimensions using your utility knife.

    • 3). Place the foam into the base of your vase. It should sit flat and even. If necessary, trim your foam to fit the vase.

    • 4). Pour enough water onto the foam to completely saturate it. The water should take about 20 seconds to be fully absorbed by the foam.

    • 5). Assemble your flowers and greenery. Your colors should complement rather than compete with each other. Snip the stems of each piece on an angle to allow for maximum water absorption.

    • 6). Insert your round materials into the center of the foam block by pushing the stems gently into the soft foam. Leave space between flowers and insert at a variety of angles.

    • 7). Turn the vase as you insert flowers to ensure the arrangement has flowers visible from every angle.

    • 8). Insert your line material around the outer edge of the floral foam. Insert the flowers so that they extend straight upward, at a shallow angle and horizontally out from the sides of the floral foam to develop a full, rounded shape for the arrangement.

    • 9). Fill in any open spaces with filler material. Weave the filler between the focal and line material to fill in the arrangement and conceal any foam that may be peeking through.

    • 10

Turn the arrangement and examine it from all angles. The arrangement should be round and full.

    • 11

Tweak the shape of your arrangement by adding more flowers or greenery. You can also push the flower into the foam deeper or draw it out farther to refine the shape of the arrangement.
