Differences Between Climbing Boots & Rock Climbing Boots on "RuneScape"
- The climbing boots have always been available on the game. They are necessary for the Death Plateau and Troll quests in the game. The rock-climbing boots didn't become available until June 2010. These were much more expensive and offered extra bonuses. They also make climbing the Death Plateau Troll shortcut easier. They and the climbing boots can be used interchangeably for the quests, depending on the user's needs, but you won't need one over the other to complete quests.
- Both the climbing boots and the rock-climbing boots can be bought from Tenzing, who lives in a house near Burthorpe. Rock-climbing Boots can also be bought through the Grand Exchange. There is a huge difference in cost between the two, however. The simple climbing boots cost only 12 coins, while the rock-climbing boots cost 75,000 coins. Rock-climbing boots cost this much because of the extra bonuses offered.
- There are not any special bonuses available from the climbing boots, except for the fact that they allow you to climb steep areas with ease. Furthermore, climbing boots require use of defense while wearing them in combat. Rock-climbing Boots offer a plus-two to your Strength experience points, and they don't require use of defense during combat because they automatically give you defense.
- Climbing boots do have an advantage over rock-climbing boots in that you can adapt them. If you take them to Dunstan, the blacksmith in Burthorpe, after you have completed the Death Plateau quest and supply him with the boots and an iron bar, he will make them into spiked boots. These boots can then be used to complete the Desert Treasure quest, which cannot be done by the regular climbing boots or the rock-climbing boots. If you try to give the rock-climbing boots to Dunstan instead of the climbing boots, he will refuse to adapt them.
