How to Sanitize Pumpkins

    • 1). Wash pumpkins in a light food-grade soap solution and rinse with clean water to remove debris and contaminants.

    • 2). Wipe pumpkins with food-grade sanitizer and let them air dry. Make sure the stem area is completely dry to prevent rotting.

    • 3). Use fungicide at this stage, if desired. While fungi can be killed by fungicide, pathogens can become resistant to this treatment.

    • 4). Wax the pumpkins to increase their shelf life. This process is optional, but it protects the pumpkins from pathogens and enhances their appearance.
