How Do I Copy an Email Message to a CD or DVD?
- If you use an email client, the client downloads your mail and stores it on your hard drive in storage files. You'll need to look at the client program to see where those files are stored. Once you have that information, go to the proper folder and drag or cut-and-paste a copy of the file into the folder you're going to burn onto your CD or DVD for storage. Burn using your media-burning software, which is usually included with your operating system.
The files will be stored as data, not as playable media. If you wish to copy a selection of specific emails and you don't need the headers or other technical information, use the method described in Section 2. - If you're copying select emails, or if you don't have access to the original files, you can copy the emails individually as text, save them as a text file and burn them to your storage media.
Pull up the emails individually; select the entire email (depending on your operating system, "Command" plus "A" or "Control" plus "A" usually works to select all). Copy the email (go to "Edit," then "Copy"; or "Command" plus "C" or "Control" plus "C").
Open a word-processing or text program and paste the email into the new file ("Edit," then "Paste"; or "Command" plus "V" or "Control" plus "V"). Repeat for each email you wish to copy. Save the new file. Drag or paste it into the folder you'll burn to your CD or DVD and burn as described in Section 1.
