How to Safely Remove Rust From Tin Toys

    • 1). Wash the toys with warm water and mild dish washing liquid. Removing the dirt and grime from toys is the first step toward finding out how much rust is one the toy.

    • 2). Make a paste of two parts lime juice and part salt in a bowl. Dip a paper towel in the paste and apply it to the rust on the toy.

    • 3). Leave the paste on the tin toy for 2 to 3 hours for the citric acid in the lime juice to dissolve the rust.

    • 4). Dampen a paper towel with paper and wipe the paste off the tin toy. If rust remains, repeat steps 2 to 4.

    • 5). Dry the tin toy completely with a paper towel and store in a dry place.
