How to Make Vertical Stripes in Photoshop
- 1). Open Adobe Photoshop. Click the "File" menu and select "New." Type "VerticalStripes" into the "Name" box. Enter dimensions for the canvas -- not the individual stripes -- into the "Width" and "Height" boxes, such as "11" and "8.5" for a full-size piece of paper. Select "inches" from the two dimensions menus, and click the "OK" button.
- 2). Double-click into the "Color Picker" at the bottom of the "Tools" column. Choose one of the stripe colors, and click "OK." Click the "Paint Bucket" tool on the "Tools" column. Click anywhere in the white space of the "VerticalStripes" canvas to fill it with color.
- 3). Click the gray rectangle icon on the "Tools" column. If you do not see it, right-click an icon of a line, gray circle or gray star -- all these shapes share the same icon square. Choose "Rectangle Tool" from the fly-out menu.
- 4). Position the cursor in the top-left corner. Click and hold down the left mouse button and drag to the bottom of the canvas to form the first rectangle or stripe. Don't worry if you draw into the gray area of the Photoshop canvas; this part will be discarded leaving a striped image.
- 5). Move the cursor slightly to the right, leaving space next to the first stripe so the original color shows through as another stripe. Draw another rectangle. Continue working your way over to the right, leaving the same space between stripes for an even look or different-size spaces for a more artistic appearance.
- 6). Right-click any of the layers in the "Layers" palette on the right side of the screen and select "Flatten Image." If you don't see the "Layers" palette, click the "Window" menu and select "Layers" to open it.
- 7). Click the "File" menu, and select the "Save" option.
