Creative Ways to Propose Marriage
- The written word is a powerful tool, and one of the best ways to express to her how much you care. A good thing about a written proposal is that it's pre-planned; you don't have to worry about getting nervous and forgetting what you want to say. If she reads the newspaper in the morning, take out an ad in her favorite section. One way to make sure she reads it that morning is to serve her breakfast in bed and bring her the paper. You can also create your own crossword puzzle with the special question hidden in the answers. There are sites online, such as CrossWordPuzzleGames.com, that allow you to create your own puzzles. Another playful way to propose is to spell out the question in glow-in-the-dark stickers on the ceiling above her bed. When she crawls into bed, she will see it immediately, and you can propose in the glow of the moonlight.
- If she likes adventure, make her work for her diamond. Send her on a treasure hunt by leaving her clues at various places that she goes to everyday. You may have to enlist the help of one of her friends or coworkers to make sure she will find the first clue to get her started on the hunt. Choose a day when you know she has the time to find and figure out the clues. When she gets to the "X that marks the spot," create a path of rose petals and candles and wait at the end with ring in hand.
- Though proposing on a vacation can be romantic, she might suspect that you are going to pop the question because she'll know that you want to do something special. If she loves the beach, proposing in the sand to the sound of the waves is a very romantic idea, and you can make it a surprise. Pick a day on your trip when you don't have much planned. Suggest a spur-of-the-moment walk on the beach after dinner, and then kneel in the moonlight to propose. Another idea is to wake up in the morning, tossing and turning loudly so that she wakes up. Tell her that you can't sleep, and ask her to go watch the sunrise with you.
If you are in the mountains or near a beautiful park or other picturesque setting, put together a picnic with wine, flowers and delicious food. Go on a walk and "stumble upon" the picnic that's waiting for you in a romantic spot. - If you have artistic or technological flair, use it to your advantage in your marriage proposal. Find signs around your city or town that contain the words "I," "love" and "you." You can use portions of street signs, store signs and billboards. Take pictures of each word, and then have someone take a picture of you holding a sign that says "Will you marry me?" Arrange the pictures in a keepsake frame and give it to her as a surprise gift.
You can also create your own website in honor of her. You can have a page of pictures from your relationship, a page with your love story and, finally, a page that says "Marry me?" with a picture of you on one knee. She will appreciate your effort and creativity, and will have a memento of your proposal that she can share with friends and family later.
