How to Build a Window Washer
- 1). Find a rubber end for the squeegee. You can buy a windshield wiper from an auto parts store or scavenge salvage yards for a used one. Make sure the rubber is smooth and not cracked or broken so that it wipes evenly. You can also use a long piece of rubber attached to a thin piece of metal or wood for sturdiness.
- 2). Assemble the squeegee. Cut a large sponge to the same length as the windshield wiper with a 2-inch width. Glue the side of the sponge to the hard side of the windshield wiper so the soft rubber protrudes over the edge.
- 3). Find the exact center of the hard side of the windshield wiper and drill a hole the size of your nut.
- 4). Drill a hole in the end of a broom handle or long pole as well. If you have a one-story house or easy-to-reach windows, you may want to use a shorter pole.
- 5). Put the nut through the holes so the broom handle is on top of the windshield wiper. Make sure to use a nut that is just long enough to attach the pieces together so it can not scratch the window. Screw on the bolt.
- 6). Use the squeegee to clean your windows by wiping from side to side. Start at the top and slowly work your way down so the excess soap and water drips to the bottom. Wiping from top to bottom will leave streaks.
