How to Accept a MoneyGram

    • 1). Ask where the MoneyGram was sent. MoneyGram has several locations around the country and the world. When someone sends money, he selects a location by the country, state or province and city or via the zip code.

    • 2). Obtain the reference number. MoneyGram provides the sender with a reference number at the time the money is sent. The receiver must have a reference number to receive the money.

    • 3). Go to the MoneyGram location and provide the reference number along with a photo ID. The reference number and ID are identification for the money. Since there are MoneyGram locations in several countries, the exact requirements will vary slightly. Some country or state locations will require both the ID and the proof of address depending on the specific MoneyGram. According to the MoneyGram website, you should call the specific location beforehand to find out if they require proof of address or not. The majority of MoneyGram locations will only require a photo ID and reference number.

    • 4). Fill out the receiver form. Upon handing in the form, the MoneyGram agent will provide the money.
