How to Stream Videos in PowerPoint
- 1). Change the program settings. The streaming video function is more advanced than the basic PowerPoint functions. To show more advanced settings, click on the round "Office" button with the Microsoft Office logo in the upper left corner of the screen. In the bottom right of the drop-down menu, click "PowerPoint Options." On the "PowerPoint Options" menu, ensure the box next to "Show the Developer Tab in the Ribbon" is checked. Click "OK."
- 2). Insert a flash object. Click on the now visible "Developer" tab on the toolbar, then click the "More Controls" button, which is a small square with a crossed hammer and wrench. On the "More Controls" menu, select "Shockwave Flash Object" and click "OK." Click anywhere on the slide with the mouse to draw a small box with an X inscribed in it. This is the box in which the streaming video will play. Using the handles on the box's perimeter, resize and move the box as desired.
- 3). Link to video. Right-click inside the box and click on "Properties." Halfway down the list in the "Properties" menu is a box titled "Movie." In the space to the right of "Movie," paste the URL of the desired video. Delete the "watch?" in the URL and replace the equals sign (=) with a forward slash (/). These symbols appear in YouTube videos and must be changed to ensure the video plays correctly. For example, the original URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wgnTU31z7s would be changed to http://www.youtube.com/v/9wgnTU31z7s. Close the "Properties" menu. When the presentation is played, the streaming video will play on the selected slide as long as the computer has an active Internet connection.
