After you bake the cakes, allow them to cool down. Once your cakes are baked and cooled,
Use a Knife to Split the cake into equal layers. - 2
To avoid that your cake dries up cover it with plastic wrap until you are ready to use it. - 3

Then use a syrup of your choice, preferably a flavored syrup, to soak your cake.
Remember the sponge cake was initially made with the idea of absorbing liquids. - 4
After you've applied the syrup, spread on the filling of your choice.
You can use either:
butter cream
Lemon Curds or any other fruit curd of your choice.
Jam or jelly. - 5
Warm up glaze and poor it over and around the sides of each petit four, You can also use a spoon a knife or spatula to cover the top and side of your Petits fours.
If you want your Petits fours to look smooth use Chocolate glaze because once it dries to a smooth surface. - 6). Cut your Petits fours to different shapes, Diamond, Square, rectangles or even small circles using cookie cutters.
