How to Make a Plastic Storage Box Boat
- 1). Collect a plastic storage box that is free of holes or cracks.
- 2). Squeeze a dollop of hot glue into the center of the inside of the box. If your box is a shoe box size or smaller, squeeze a nickel-sized dollop. If your box is larger, squeeze a quarter-sized dollop.
- 3). Place a 1/2-inch thick wooden dowel vertically upright in the center of the hot glue dollop. Hold it into place until the glue cools, which can take about 5 minutes. If your box is a shoe box size or smaller, use a dowel that is 18 inches long or less. If you have a larger plastic box, use a longer dowel that will rise out of the box.
- 4). Cut out a triangle from fabric. For a smaller box, cut out a triangle that measures about 8 inches on all sides. For a larger box, cut out a triangle that measures about 18 inches on all sides.
- 5). Hot glue a piece of twine along one side of the triangle. Allow the glue to cool and harden.
- 6). Hot glue one end of the twine to the top of the upright dowel, and the other end to one end of the box. Make sure to keep the twine taut. Cut off any excess twine.
- 7). Paint the outside of the plastic box boat using waterproof paint. Allow the paint to dry completely before setting sail.
