Pharmacy technicians would do most of the work when it comes to preparing and selling prescriptions. This helps to reduce health care costs. While pharmacy technicians perform this routine work, pharmacists can focus on patient care, advice and supervisory duties. Pharmacy technicians will help out the pharmacists by providing medication and health care to patients. When performing these duties, they have to adhere to very strict laws and regulations. - To perform such duties, pharmacy technicians must register with the board. Once they register, they can handle medication and provide it to the patients. They can also enter prescription information and drug history, prepare prescription labels, prepare patient information, refill prescriptions and package drugs.
To be registered, a pharmacy technician must complete a training program and examination that meets the board's criteria. They will also need proof of certification that they received from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. - The board may approve one or more examinations for entry-level pharmacy technicians. The examination must meet the standards of the Joint Technical Standards for Education and Psychological Testing. This test must be administered by a third party such as an organization, school or proctor. The board will then determine the minimum passing score for the examination.
- It's the duty and responsibility of the pharmacy technicians to inform the board of their current address in writing within 30 days cof their registration. Pharmacy technicians must inform the board of their current address since all the board will send all laws and regulations to the given address. Pharmacy technicians must be aware of these laws and regulations to perform their jobs.
- Registrations for pharmacy technicians expire on December 31. They will need to register their registrations annually before that date to maintain their duties. Pharmacy technicians will need to submit a renewal fee and form to renew their registration. If they renew or register on or after July 1st, they won't be able to renew until December 31st of the following year. A pharmacy technician that fails to renew their registration by the expiration date can renew anytime within one year. They will have to submit a renewal fee, late fee, renewal form and proof of required continuing education.
