How to Color Auburn Hair to Blonde Hair

    • 1). Choose the hair dye. If you use a semi-permanent hair dye, wash your hair, and towel dry.

    • 2). Spread a layer of petroleum jelly around your hairline to prevent the dye from dripping on your skin, as recommended by O, the Oprah magazine.

    • 3). Drape a towel around your shoulders.

    • 4). Pour the dye in a bowl. Put on the gloves to keep your hands from discoloring. Use the paintbrush to apply the dye to your hair. Start at the roots, and go down. Don't forget to color the under layers of your hair.

    • 5). Alternatively, apply all of the dye to your hair, and put a cap over it.

    • 6). Let the dye sit. The amount of time depends on your brand of hair color and desired shade. The longer the dye sits, the darker it gets. Going from auburn to blond may need to sit longer because they are two different colors.

    • 7). Rinse out your hair. Apply a leave-in hair conditioner, and comb out.
