How to Remove a CBR 1000 Alternator Cover

    1987 - 1999 CBR1000F 218

    • 1). Pull the plastic trim clips out of the upper fairing's bottom panel and the lower fairing's V-panel. This will separate the lower fairing into two panels, one on each side of the motorcycle.

    • 2). Unscrew the left lower fairing panel's mounting bolts, using a 4-mm Allen wrench and a 10-mm socket. Pull the left lower fairing panel away from the motorcycle to access the alternator cover.

    • 3). Follow the alternator cover's wiring to its connector, positioned near the motorcycle's left frame rail and fuel tank. Unplug the connector from the motorcycle's wiring harness.

    • 4). Place an oil pan below the alternator cover on the left side of the motor. Unscrew all three of the alternator cover's mounting bolts, using a 10-mm socket.

    • 5). Pull the cover partially off of the motor and allow any oil trapped in the cover to drain into your oil pan. Remove the cover completely once the oil has drained completely.

    2004 and Newer CBR1000RR

    • 1). Unscrew the lower fairing's mounting bolts from both sides of the motorcycle, using a 4-mm Allen wrench. Lower the fairing to the ground and slide it out from under the motorcycle.

    • 2). Place an oil pan below the alternator cover on the left side of the motor. Unscrew all eight of the alternator cover's mounting bolts, using an 8-mm socket.

    • 3). Pull the alternator cover partially off of the motor and allow any trapped oil to drain into your oil pan. Remove the alternator cover completely once the oil has drained.
