How to Remove a Virus by Registry Tweaks
- 1). Identify the virus that you are trying to remove. You can do this by paying close attention to the error messages that may pop-up after the virus infection. The name of the virus is usually in the dialog box. Perform a Google search for the error message to get a better understanding of the kind of virus that has entered your computer.
- 2). Click on the Start button and select "Run..."
- 3). Type "regedit" in the text box and press the "Enter" key. This will launch Registry Editor for your Windows operating system.
- 4). Click on the little arrow to beside the folder "HEKY_LOCAL_MACHINE" in the left pane. This should expand the folder show all of its contents.
- 5). Click on "Edit" on the top bar and select 'Find..." You can also press "Ctrl"+"F" keys to execute this task.
- 6). Type the name of the virus you identified in Step 1. Make sure to check the boxes beside "Keys", "Values" and "Data" under "Look at." Press the "Enter" key to search for the virus.
- 7). Right-click on the file that appears when you perform the search and select "Preferences." Check the installation date of the file. If the date matches closely with the date when your computer got infected, it is probably the computer virus that you need to remove.
- 8). Single-click on the file and press the 'Delete" key to end task.
