Any type of garments has seams wherein it is the point where two pieces of material are sewn together. It becomes a problem when you want to make waterproof garments because the needle makes holes. A chemical or an adhesive seam sealant can be used but they are not really durable and strong.

The seam sealing tape is provided to create a bond around the puncture points and remove any potential for leaks. A seam seal tape is typically used for heavy duty rescue gears such as fire fighters and other rescue workers. However, it can also be applied to other practical applications and daily common uses.

There are many applications of seam sealant tape. But one of the most common applications of a seam sealing tape is the Hazmat suit. Hazmat suits are protective garment that are used by the workers that respond to any hazardous situations. These are also used by scientists, military personnel, specialized workers to guard against harmful things such as viruses, toxins, foreign contaminants, bacteria and chemicals.

The seam sealing tape seam seal tape ensures that the suits are airtight to protect the workers from air elements or to protect even the patients that need sterile environment.

Hazmat suits have same designs and functions. The variety of materials, accessories and designs only means that some garments or suits are not appropriate for all types of hazardous exposure of materials or situations. But then later on, the suit or garment are then classified into 4 different levels to make an easy identification which one is appropriate to the contaminant or response that is needed. The classifications were labelled as Level A, B, C, and D.

Level A Hazmat protection offers the highest protection level against gases, mists, vapors and particles. It is a chemical entry suit that is fully encapsulated with a seam seal tape to totally close the points where the fabrics meet. For a higher quality of Level A Hazmat suit, the two-way speaker system and microphone is worn inside this garment.

Level B Hazmat protection is a suit that provides protection from the splashes that involves harmful chemicals. The SCBA or a breathing apparatus is worn outside and the garment does not protect again vapor transfers. The seams of the suit use seal sealing tape for prevention of liquid transfer, wrists, ankles and face piece.

Level C Hazmat protection has similar function with Level B Hazmat protection. It effectively prevents the passing through of liquid particles and chemicals. Level C allows other respirator devices like air-purifying respirators. However there is a downside because the wearer is not actually protected in oxygen-starved environments like room or areas where the oxygen is placed by other vapors and gases.

Level D Hazmat protection has the poorest form of protection but is used in environments where there are hazards but has limited protection to the wearer. This garment typically covers gloves, boots, and lower body gears that are waterproofed with a seam seal tape.

Waterproof garments are not made equal. So you need to find a professional clothing company like Loxy and Stor-Nor which manufactures the highest quality of waterproof garment in industry. It utilizes seam sealing tape with its own brand of seam sealing machines.
