La Quinta Resort

Located twenty miles east of Palm Springs in the shadow of the Santa Rosa Mountains is the historic and luxurious La Quinta Resort. Since its grand opening in 1927, the La Quinta Resort has been a haven for movie stars, celebrities and well-to-do businessmen. Recognizable names include Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Frank Capra, the Vanderbilt's and the Crocker's. Capra returned year after year to La Quinta Resort where he wrote many film scripts including, It Happened One Night, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Meet John Doe and many more. It is said that he became superstitious about writing his scripts at La Quinta Resort once he swept the Academy Awards for It Happened One Night.

Today, the La Quinta Resort awaits anyone looking for relaxation and pampering. It features an old-world adobe architecture accented with arched passageways, large iron & wood doors, terracotta potted plants and a plethora of fountains & gardens. Many of the rooms at the resort are the original adobe casitas from the 1920's but with today's modern luxuries. Accommodations include nearly 800 casitas, suites, villas and vacation homes.

With 41 pools, 53 hot tubs, 23 tennis courts, 9 championship golf courses and an award-winning spa, one cannot help but feel relaxed after a stay at the resort. The La Quinta Resort has repeatedly been voted a 'top-ten tennis resort' in the nation. Its golf courses have hosted major tournaments including the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, Skins Game, and the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and have been ranked by Golf Magazine as one of the 'Top 100 Courses You Can Play'. The resort golf school has been recognized as the '#1 Golf School in America' by such notables as US News, CNN and Travel & Leisure Magazine to name a few. For the ultimate in relaxation, Spa La Quinta offers massage and beauty treatments from many different cultures around the world. Melt away any stresses in one of seven private whirlpool baths or sunbathe in the relaxation garden complete with an outdoor wading fountain and fireplace.

Seven on-site restaurants ranging from a sports bar to fine dining give no excuse for having to leave the resort during your stay. The Plaza is where several of these restaurants can be found and features a large outdoor courtyard filled with shops, boutiques, restaurants and a coffee shop. Shops include high-end choices like Tommy Bahama and Polo Ralph Lauren to a local fine art studio and clothing boutique. In the center of The Plaza is a hill from which a beautifully landscaped garden and several streams cascade down from the courtyard fountain on top where live entertainment can often be heard. Enjoy cocktails at The Plaza while watching the sun set behind the mission bells and the jagged Santa Rosa Mountains in the distance.

I can only think of a few reasons why you would consider leaving the resort during your stay; Old Town La Quinta, Fisherman's Market Restaurant and Shields Date Gardens. Old Town La Quinta features old structures mixed with new that are filled with shops and restaurants. Located just a short distance away and a favorite with the locals at all of their Coachella Valley locations, Fisherman's Market & Grill offers healthy seafood fare in a casual environment. Just a little farther east on Highway 111 is Shields Date Gardens where you'll savor the best date shakes and find specialty fruit, nut and other farm products that make great gifts as well as snacks.

If you're looking for that next relaxing vacation to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, consider La Quinta Resort - You will not be disappointed. Only a 2 to 2 and a half hour drive from Los Angeles and Orange County and you'll find yourself dozing off by the pool while listening to the wind brushing the palm trees. Later in the evening, the sun will be setting as you sip a margarita in The Plaza while listening to live Andean music and perhaps another dip in the pool beyond that. This is what you can expect during your stay at La Quinta Resort.
