Review - Tapiz Melbec "06 Mendoza Argentina
In South America at the southern tip of the continent sits Argentina.
Surrounded by Chili, Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil and Uruguay.
This country has emerged as one the leaders in South America for wine quality and production.
With the help of the diversification that the weather provides plus the micro climates that the Andes mountains provide, these Argentina wines are making their mark in the world.
Case in point...
recently while shopping some different mega wine stores I noticed that Argentina, Chili and Spain all had about the same number of wines available.
I was actually surprised.
I thought Spain would have twice as much or more than both countries combined.
After doing a little research I found that all three countries imported and offered about 80 different wines.
At least that is what I was able to find at the mega wine stores.
Fincas Patagónicas Winery is located in the Valle de Uco and Agrelo region, in the province of Mendoza.
Behind the winery is Mt.
Plata (6100 meters) and Tupungato volcano (6800 meters) high.
This winery is mostly known for their Malbec.
In fact they had been named in 2000, 2002, 2004 one of the best overall Malbec and best value wines by three different major wine magazines.
We tried this wine just alone, then we tried it with two or three meals.
Tasted like turpentine, enough said! Gave it more then the benefit of the doubt, this just was not their year.
Maybe we got a bad batch or this is where they came up with the term "...
" Rot-Gut? Both bottles we drank were a very, very strong.
Scream it with me pass! And for around $18.
00 a bottle I could have bought one or two more bottles of a wine we enjoy drinking.
We have rated the Tapiz Chardonnay good from this winery.
So its not all their wines, just this years Malbec.
We rate this wine (Pass) Here are our Ratings: / Pass / Fair / OK / Good / Great / Fantastic
