How to Treat Lick Granuloma in Dogs

    • 1). Evaluate your canine for signs of lick granuloma. Dogs that experience this condition may have lesions that cause excessive itching. Your canine may also scratch and itch uncontrollably.

    • 2). Take your canine to the vet for an exam. A skin test is needed to make a diagnosis of your canine’s health issue. Your vet may also biopsy the area to determine your dog’s condition. Keeping your dog calm during the exam is important. Staying relaxed yourself can help since dogs pick up on our emotions.

    • 3). Create a treatment plan for your dog. Infections caused by this condition need long term antibiotic treatment. Medication may need to be administered for up to three months. Topical therapy can also be used to control the itchiness.

    • 4). Ask for a collar. It’s important that your canine not have access to the affected area. Request a collar and have your dog wear it at all times.

    • 5). Give your canine regular exercise. Sometimes this condition isn’t caused by an infection. This can be a behavioral issue caused by boredom. Giving your dog plenty of exercise and attention can discourage this behavior.
