How to Customize Your Own Wedding Dress
- 1). Add straps or sleeves to alter your wedding dress. A halter top can transform a strapless dress, while cap sleeves add a fairy-tale princess look. Long, lace sleeves add elegance and a vintage feel to your dress. Add a large bow on one shoulder for a modern, eye-catching attraction.
- 2). Change the size of your skirt with a petticoat. Reduce the petticoat in your dress for a more relaxed look. Pile on the layers of tulle or netting for a full, formal look without paying the cost of a couture dress.
- 3). Embellish your dress with any variety of beads. Sew crystals to the bodice or line the back with pearl buttons.
- 4). Tie a sash, bow or ribbon around your waist. Let the ends of a wide sash trail to your train or wear a delicate ribbon with the small bow on the front of the dress.
- 5). Expose your petticoat. Hem up either all or part of your dress to show the tulle underneath.
- 6). Enhance the dress bodice with a bold brooch. A large colored jewel can spice up your dress without overpowering the overall look. Jewels placed at the dip of a neckline will draw attention to the bust.
- 7). Adorn your dress with embroidery in the pattern of your choice on the bodice, skirt or train. Embroidery can be a subtle white or light champagne color or one of your wedding colors.
- 8). Trim the dress with a different fabric such as satin, lace, tulle or organza.
- 9). Add a dash of color to your dress. Wear a colored sash, lace up a corset back with one of your wedding colors or dye the tulle underneath your dress a bold color for a fun fashion.
