How to Insulate Mobile Homes With No Attics
- 1). Pull the siding away from the side of the mobile home along the top edge of the house, and cut a small 4- to 6-inch hole with a jigsaw into the top of the wall behind the siding.
- 2). Attach several 4-foot lengths of PVC pipe together with fittings. The diameter of the pipe depends on the diameter of the loose fill insulation equipment hose. Select a pipe that will fit over the hose. Apply duct tape around all the fittings to secure the pipes.
- 3). Slide one end of the connected PVC pipes over the insulation machine hose. Wrap duct tape around the end of the pipe and hose, after you fit the two together, to secure them and maintain a good air seal.
- 4). Insert the hose into the hole and push it to the far end of the space between the home's indoor ceiling and the roof. Turn the equipment on to spray the loose fill insulation into the house. Move the hose back and forth, slowly working your way back out of the hole.
- 5). Cut a piece of sheet metal to fit over the hole that you made in the wall. Drill sheet metal screws through the metal and into the house. Squeeze a tube of caulk around the edge of the piece of metal to form a bead. Spread it flat with your finger. Apply caulk to the top of the screw heads, as well. Replace the siding.
