Banner

• Every iPhone has a banner on its screen that appears when the phone is in locked mode. The banner serves as a box around the time, which is displayed in large digits above the date. The date is always written with the day of the week followed by the month and exact day.
  
  

Purpose

• The banner serves to highlight the date and time on your phone. While the banner is transparent, it is positioned on the screen in such a way that it appears to be on top of the background image. Without the banner, the time and date might blend into the background on your phone and not be easily visible.
  
  

Removal

• The date and time banner is a default setting on your iPhone. While you can change the background image on the screen, which sits behind the date and time, the banner box itself is a permanent fixture on the screen. When you choose a background image for your iPhone, the device lets you drag the image up and down so that the banner does not block an important part of the image.

• The format of the date in the banner box cannot be adjusted, but the format of the current time can be adjusted. The iPhone has a "24-Hour Time" feature, which can be toggled on and off in the "Settings" menu. When enabled, the time is displayed by the current hour in the 24-hour cycle; for example, 5:00 PM is displayed as 17:00.
