- 1). Pour 1/4 cup trisodium phosphate into a bucket with 1 gallon of water. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and dip a sponge into the mixture. Wring out the sponge and wipe down the layer of paint. Allow it to dry. It's not necessary to rinse it off.
- 2). Plug in an electric sander and use a sheet of 40-grit sandpaper. Run the sander in small, circular motions over the paint. Don't exert pressure on the sander and risk wearing out the motor. Be patient, moving the sander in clockwise and counterclockwise movements until you remove most of the paint, then move on to an adjacent area. Repeat this process with 60-grit sandpaper, 120-grit sandpaper and 240-grit sandpaper.
- 3). Dampen a clean rag in mineral spirits and wipe down the exterior of the surface, removing the dust caused from sanding.
