How to Get Rid of Moisture in Sheet Rock From a Roof Leak

    • 1). Move any items, including furniture, away from the damaged sheet rock. Air flow is essential for drying out water-damaged sheet rock, and furniture and other items can prevent air from reaching the damage areas.

    • 2). Open all of the windows in the room where the damaged sheet rock is located if possible. The more air you can move over the sheet rock, the faster it will dry.

    • 3). Place adjustable blower fans by the damaged sheet rock and adjust them so they blow directly onto the water damage. Use as many fans as it takes to keep air blowing on the entire surface of the damage. Keep the fans blowing until the sheet rock is dry and the surface doesn't feel cool to the touch.

    • 4). Apply a stain blocker paint to the damaged area with a paintbrush and let it dry before attempting to repaint the area its original color.
