Using A Steel Comb To Pick Off Head Lice and Nits

One of the most common and important parts of treating head louse [http://www.homeremedyforheadlouse.com] effectively will be the nit picking of the hair. This often has better results if it is done with a steel head lice comb. It is such an important part of a head lice treatment cycle that if you forget, the chances are the overall treatment will not work.

There are many steel combs available to help you with nit picking and most of them are effective. The combs can be bought on their own at your local drug store and are often supplied with head lice treatments such as Nix or Rid. Popular combs, Lice Meister and Lice Out, are probably the best as they not only help remove the nit but also the head lice as well.

It is important that when you start using the nit comb that you include it with your every day head lice treatment. It will probably require use for the next 2 to 3 weeks, daily. In addition, to help make it easier to comb the hair, it is often suggested that the hair is washed and shampooed before using the comb as it helps loosen any knotted hair. However, it will depend on the medication being used to treat head lice as some will require one or two days after shampooing before the comb is used.

Using the comb can be more effective and easier if you follow some suggestions. These include parting the hair into four sections and, depending on the length of the hair, clipping the sections back. You will also need to allow enough time to do a thorough job in the first place and enough light to see what you are doing. By wiping the bomb with toilet paper or a paper towel, you will see what the comb is lifting off the hair. Wiping of the comb should be performed after each stroke of the comb, although this isn't completely necessary.

It goes without saying that after you have finished combing, you will need to soak the comb in boiling water and remember to wash your hand thoroughly.
