- Scripted much like an action movie, the game's story follows "loose cannon" LAPD detective Nick Kang as he takes on a new gang-related threat to Los Angeles. Along the way, he uncovers big conspiracies, tries to rescue his kidnapped brother and finds out the truth about what happened to the father he hardly knew, a Los Angeles cop who disappeared while investigating a case. Along the way, Nick will cause a variety of things to explode, drive wildly in some high-speed car chases and kill a number of criminals.
- There are numerous websites that offer hints, cheats, tips and walk-throughs of True Crime: Streets of LA. It's important to note, however, that whichever site you choose corresponds with the platform on which you're playing, because the game is available for Playstation 2, Xbox, GameCube and as a PC game for both Windows and Mac platforms. Some recommended sites are GameFAQs.com, IGN.com, GameSpot.com, GameRevolution.com and CheatCodes.com, although there are many others.
- BradyGames -- maker of True Crime: Streets of LA -- published an official strategy guide, written by Tim Boggen, that serves GameCube, PS2 and Xbox platforms. There is also an official strategy guide for PC versions of the game. In addition to a comprehensive walk-through, the strategy guide provides information on how players can experience every possible moment of game play, including alternate scenes and alternate missions. Also included are detailed maps and tips on how to upgrade weapons, vehicles and fighting skills.
- There are hundreds of different hints that can be used throughout the game. Among some of the more useful are: taking the knife from the criminal called the West Side Ripper and throwing it at his head, which ensures your first encounter with him is also your last, as jailing him will cause him to escape later in the game and become an ongoing threat; when a dagger is acquired, run toward the target and tap the B button, which causes Nick to throw the dagger; and, when driving in a situation that requires you to flee from other cars shooting at you, look for wide, open spaces such as a parking lot to drive through. The car chasing you will stay on the road and go all the way around, allowing you the chance to escape.
