What Type of Bird Lays a Bluish Green Egg?
- House finches are small brownish-gray birds. Adult male finches typically have either light yellow or red coloring on their heads and chests. A few adult female finches will have a small amount of red coloring as well. Females typically lay between 2 to 6 eggs per "brood." House finches can raise 2 to 3 broods per season. The eggs are oval in shape and can be pale bluish-green to bluish-white with black or brown dots on one end of each egg. The incubation period lasts approximately 14 days and hatching takes place over the course of 1 to 3 days.
- Hermit thrushes are small light brown birds approximately 6 inches long. Their breasts are white with brown or olive-colored spots. Hermit thrushes are commonly recognized by the white rings around their eyes. These birds make their nests on the ground or in small bushes. Females lay between 3 to 6 bluish-green eggs per brood. The eggs can be plain or speckled with black dots. The female will incubate them for approximately 12 days until they hatch.
- The Araucana is a rare breed of chicken that originated in Chile. Araucanas come in a variety of sizes and color combinations. This breed is distinguished from other chicken breeds by their rear ends. Araucanas are rumpless, meaning they have no tails. Some have ear tufts, which this is rare as most with ear tufts die even before they have hatched. The Araucana is commonly confused with a similar breed called the Ameraucana. Ameraucanas are larger and posses tails. Both breeds lay bluish-green eggs.
