How to Determine if a Dell Is Refurbished
- 1). Check the back of the computer, near the screws that secure the outer housing. You will find a sticker that says "void if torn." If this sticker is torn, then your computer is refurbished. You may need to use a magnifying glass to check for tears.
- 2). If you received your computer in a box, check the cardboard for tears, cracks or dents. Although a few little dents are usual for every item, if your computer seems to have quite a few, your item could be a customer-returned computer. In this case, you may be able to get some money back for buying a damaged product.
- 3). Check the desktop computer for any obvious cosmetic damage. This can include scratches in the screen, dents in the desktop or paint chips anywhere on the computer. If your computer has any of the above, it could be refurbished.
- 4). Check your keyboard and accessories for signs of wear. This can include scratches on the bottom of the mouse, fingerprints on the keyboard, screen, or mouse, or dents in the metal in the back of the desktop unit. This type of damage is common in demonstration units, or computers that are used for demos in stores.
- 5). If your box has been opened before you opened it yourself, your item may be a refurbished product. If you suspect that your box has been opened, immediately take it back to your store, and ask for a new product, or a discount.
