How to Use the Solaris SMC

    Setting Up an Administrative Role

    • 1). Double-click on the "SMC" icon in CDE Applications Manager to start Solaris Management Console.

    • 2). Click on "This Computer" in the "Navigation" pane on the left side of the window to view the item's contents in the right side of the window (the view pane).

    • 3). Open "System Configuration > Users > Administrative Roles."

    • 4). Click "Action > Add Administrative Role" and set up a username and password to create your primary administrator role.

    • 5). Click on the "Home Toolbox Icon" on the "Location" bar.

    • 6). Double-click the "Tool" icon to open a login window.

    • 7). Enter the password that you created.

    Using SMC

    • 1). Click on "User Accounts" in the navigation pane to display all user accounts in the view pane.

    • 2). Open the "User Manager Tool" in the navigation pane. This will display all subtools for email and user accounts in the view pane.

    • 3). Click "Open Toolbox" from the Console menu to choose between all toolbox options, then find and select the toolbox you desire to load. Alternatively, you can select the arrow on the right side of the "Open Toolbox" button to open a drop-down menu showing the toolboxes you have used lately and select one to open it.

    • 4). Click on "Preferences" in the "Console" menu to open the "Preferences" window. You can set your preffered interaction style using "Appearance" preferences. Choose "Classic" interaction style so that double clicking on a tool will load it, or "Web" interaction style in which a tool is loaded by one click of the mouse.

    • 5). Click on a link in the Information section at the bottom of the screen to see the event log for the link you selected.

    • 6). Open individual events in the log you opened to bring up a short description of that particular event.
