When hosting a birthday party for children, you can offer the kids a cute dessert as an alternative to the basic cake that will be both whimsical and delicious. Although birthday cakes are the standard party treat, serving alternative desserts can add an original twist to any kid's party. - Kids will enjoy eating a cup of dirt, which is made with chocolate pudding, brownie chunks and colorful gummy worms. Simply bake a pan of brownies, but do not cut it. Let the brownie cool completely, and slice it into small cubes. Spoon a dollop of chocolate pudding into a plastic cup, followed by three or four chunks of brownie. Insert a gummy worm or two into the cup to make it look like worms are crawling up through dirt.
- A fruit bouquet can resemble a flower bouquet, but can be eaten instead of just looked at. Wash and dry different pieces of fruit, such as strawberries, grapes, melon balls, and pineapple and watermelon chunks. Insert a piece of fruit onto the end of a clean bamboo skewer. Gather up all of the skewers, and place them collectively into a vase to make them look like flowers. Arrange the fruit in a visually pleasing way, as you would a floral arrangement.
- Instead of a birthday cake, you can make a giant birthday cookie that can be cut and served like a pizza. Simply bake a batch of cookie dough, but place the dough in a thin layer on a greased, round pizza pan. Leave about two inches around the perimeter of the tray so that the cookie can expand. Bake the cookie dough as you would cookies, in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 15 minutes. Allow the cookie to cool, and serve with a pizza cutter.
