Biting issues - You will have to deal with this issue with your pup at some stage; he will test the boundaries and will probably take a nip or two at your hand.
You must deal with this firmly and handle it with poise.
In other words, shouting at your pup will not accomplish anything much.
Just gently bop him on the nose and put him back in the crate.
For additional measure, stare him down and then ignore him altogether, he will get the message that he has done something wrong.
In time, he will get the message loud and clear that taking a nip out of everything that moves on two legs is unacceptable to you.

Jumping on people - This issue is a bit hard to handle early on, as dogs tend to exhibit this kind of behavior only when they are full grown.
That is not to say that pups do not jump on people, just that they are too short to do so.
This problem becomes a real issue especially if your dog happens to be a St.
Bernard, you get the idea.
No one likes to have a big giant of a dog jump on them and push them to the ground.
You will need to make it clear to your dog that this kind of a behavior is not acceptable.
Generally dogs tend to do this especially when they are excited, this is all the more reason that you need to deal with this issue as dogs tend to bite at times when they get over excited.
So deal with this issue at the very first instance of 'jumping' as it may also lead to the recipient getting a few nips in the process.

The midnight whining - Your pup will tend to whine every now and then, this is on account of the fact that he misses you or that he needs you to attend to him right away.
Pups are more like children; they need the reassuring presence of their parents / masters around them most of the time.
Try leaving your pup in the drawing room for one full night and see what happens.
In all probability, you will be woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of your pup whining for you.
So use the crate and take him to your bedroom, in time he will learn to spend the night alone without having to whine every now and then.
