How to Create a Concentric Circle Graph in PowerPoint 2007
- 1). Open your PowerPoint presentation and click on the slide where you want the concentric circle graph to appear. Click the "Insert" tab, and then click "Chart." Scroll down in the list and click "Bubble" then click "OK." This will create a series of circles in a graph; the size of the circles is related to the value of the data, so the bigger the number, the larger the circle.
- 2). Edit the data points in the Excel spreadsheet that pops up so that your data is represented. Don't worry about the labels in the spreadsheet or the chart at this point in the process. Add rows or columns as necessary for your data set. Click back over to the PowerPoint slide when you're done editing the Excel spreadsheet. The size of the circles will correspond to your data with the larger numbers giving larger circles and the smaller numbers smaller circles. Unfortunately you can't move these circles on the graph, so you will need to use them as reference points.
- 3). Click back on the "Insert" tab, and then click "Shape." Choose the "Oval" shape from the list. Hold down the "Shift" key on your keyboard and click the cross-hair at the top of the largest circle, and then drag down to the bottom of the circle before releasing "Shift" and the mouse button. The resulting circle should be exactly the same size as the circle in the graph. Repeat this process for each circle in the graph.
- 4). Hold down "Shift" then click on the circles you inserted starting with the largest and finishing with the smallest. All the circles should be selected. Press "Ctrl+C" on your keyboard to copy the circles. Click the edge of the graph area then press "Delete" to remove the graph. Press "Ctrl+V" to paste the circles back into the slide.
- 5). Click the "Drawing Tools: Format" tab then click on the "Align" button in the upper right area. Choose "Align Middle." Click "Align" again and then choose "Align Center." The circles will all be in the middle of the slide. If you can't see all the circles click on the largest one then in the "Design Tools: Format" tab click the arrow next to "Send to Back" and choose "Send Backward." It will move one step backward. Continue moving circles back or forward until you can see all of them.
- 6). Click the top circle. Click the "More" arrow next to the "Shape Styles" in the "Design Tools: Format" tab. Choose a color and design for the top circle. Repeat this process for each circle giving it a different color to differentiate them.
- 7). Hold "Shift" and click all of the circles to select them all. Hold down "Shift" and "Ctrl" and click on the corner of the largest circle then drag out to enlarge the whole stack of circles together. Release the mouse and keyboard buttons when the circles are the size you want.
