Salt In-Ground Pool Care Instructions
- Salt water pools maintain water health through chlorine as well, but instead of adding chlorine and other chemicals, you add pool salt to the water and an electrolytic cell converts the salt into natural chlorine. Test the water every day or every other day for salt water pools to check and maintain proper chemical levels. Your test results will indicate what needs to be added to your pool. Add non-iodized pool salt to the water to raise the salt concentration level to around 3,000 parts per million. Muriatic acid is added as a base to balance the pH when needed.
- Salt water pools require a lot of the same basic care as any other in-ground pool. Perform regular weekly maintenance like scrubbing the sides of the pool, empting and cleaning the filters and filter baskets, vacuuming the pool bottom and checking the pipes, motors and fittings to ensure they are in good working order. Cover the pool when you will not be using it frequently to keep the water clean and at the proper level. This will ensure the water stays healthier.
- There are a few steps required of salt water pools that are different, though. Make sure the control box for the salt processor is set to the proper level for your pool usage. You may wish to adjust this for occasions such as heavy rainstorms or pool parties, which require more chlorine. You also must inspect and clean the electrolytic cell every three to six months. This is what converts the salt into chlorine and treats the pool.
