5 Ways to Improve Your Health With a Sauna

Most of us simply think of a sauna as a place to relax in or possibly to relieve sore muscles, but in reality saunas can provide much more far reaching health benefits.
In addition to the stress relieving benefits, saunas also have the capability to improve blood pressure and circulation, boost our immune system, reduce toxin levels in our bodies and treat breathing ailments like asthma.
If more people knew about all of these benefits to the health I'm sure there would be many more home saunas installed across America.
Here are 5 health benefits of saunas that you may not have known about.
1.
Saunas can actually help with weight loss and they do so in two different ways.
First of all, the obvious way they help is through excess water loss when we sweat.
However, they also help by increasing our core temperature and our bodies metabolism and this can last for hours after we exit the sauna.
This increased metabolism means more calories are burned even when we're at rest.
2.
Saunas decrease the toxins in our bodies and have been shown to lower the levels of such chemicals as mercury, ammonia and nicotine.
It also cleanses the body of the chemicals released when we're under stress, thus lowering our overall stress levels.
This can benefit us in numerous ways, including lowering blood pressure and creating a sense of well being.
3.
In addition to the direct destruction of toxins, saunas also remove toxins by making us sweat.
Research has shown that up to 35% of all toxins are removed from our bodies when we sweat and saunas are a great help with this.
4.
The increased body temperature caused by a sauna also prompts the body to increase white blood cell production.
This is turn boosts our immune system since the white blood cells are the defenders of our bodies, attacking foreign bacteria and viruses.
You won't get a huge effect like when you run a fever, but you should see some improvement in your bodies defense against colds and flus.
5.
Those with skin problems will love the sauna because it helps to clean the skin and keep it more healthy.
It does this by cleansing toxins as I spoke about earlier, but it also helps by increasing our heart rate.
The increased heart rate will cause more blood to flow to the skin bringing oxygen and nutrients and cleaning away toxins helping our skin heal and stay healthy.
These are just five of the ways that saunas can help to improve our health.
There are other ways that saunas help us as well, but even with these 5 benefits in mind, combined with the stress relieving help of a sauna it's no surprise that people are increasingly choosing to have saunas installed in their homes.
