How to Make Negatives for Vinyl
- 1). Insert the vinyl sheeting into your vinyl cutter. Open the vinyl cutter software on your computer.
- 2). Click on the "A" in the vinyl cutter software menu and type your text. It's best if you click on the "A" and type each word separately. This enables you to move the words around.
- 3). Select the text by dragging the cursor across it while holding down the left mouse button. From the drop-down font menu, click the appropriate font.
- 4). Set your vinyl cutter speed, pressure and knife to Level 3. Place the vinyl (paper backing-side down) on the mat and smooth it down. Load the vinyl and the mat into your vinyl cutter. Silhouette cutters do not require a mat and cut directly from the vinyl sheet. Select "Cut" from the Cricut menu or "Send it to Silhouette" for the Silhouette cutter. This will send your vinyl negative to the vinyl cutter to cut out the letters.
