How to Cut 45 Degree Angles in Moulding
- 1). Put on the safety glasses. Make sure the miter saw is off and unplugged.
- 2). Hold the trim in your non-dominate hand about 3 feet from the end where you intend to make the cut. The end to be cut should be pointing towards your dominate hand.
- 3). Hold the back of the trim flat against the backstop or base of the miter saw. If you are corner that is concave or convex (like where two walls meet), the back of the trim should be against the backstop. If you are going around a flat corner (like at the top of a door), the back of the trim should be on the base, pushed up against the backstop.
- 4). Adjust the miter saw to 45 degrees. If the corner is concave (inwards) or flat, the angle should be pointed toward your non-dominant hand, when you are holding the saw with your dominant hand. If the corner is convex, it should be pointed away from non-dominant hand.
- 5). Slide the trim over so that when the saw is pulled down, it will cut through the trim. Pull the miter saw down with your dominant hand to check the cut location.
- 6). Plug in the miter saw. Turn it on and slowly pull it downwards all the way through the trim. Raise the saw back up and turn it off. Remove the trim and a flat edge should be present where you made the cut. If there is any ledge, the trim was not far enough over and needs to be recut.
