How to Shrink DVDs to Fit on an MP3 Player
- 1). Download and install HandBrake from its parent website (see Resources). Agree to the terms of use and launch the program.
- 2). Insert your DVD into your computer; HandBrake should read it automatically. If not, load it in HandBrake by clicking the "Source" button at the top of the screen. Locate your DVD's "Video TS" folder, and open all its contents in HandBrake.
- 3). Choose which chapters or tracks you want converted, using the "Title" drop-down menus.
- 4). Select the desired export format from the output settings drop-down menu. (For most players, you will choose "MP4 file"). You may also click the "Presets" button on the right side of the screen to reveal more export options.
- 5). Click the "Picture Settings" tab and enter the width and height of your output picture (consult your user manual).
- 6). Hit the destination "Browse..." button to set a save location on your computer and click "Start" to begin the conversion.
- 1). Launch your web browser and visit the AVS website (see Resources). Download and install AVS Video Converter. Agree to the licensing terms and run the program.
- 2). Insert your DVD into your computer. Click the input file name "Browse..." button in AVS and locate the DVD's "Video TS" folder. Highlight the folder and choose to open it in AVS.
- 3). Select your output format from one of the selections at the top of the AVS screen. Edit your output's picture size by clicking the "Edit Profile" button.
- 4). Hit the output file name "Browse..." button to assign a file path (save location) on your computer. Click "Save."
- 5). Click the "Convert Now!" button to begin compressing your DVD.
- 1). Download and install Xilisoft DVD Ripper from its parent website (see Resources). Agree to all the licensing terms and open the program.
- 2). Insert your DVD into your computer. Click "File" at the top of Xilisoft's main screen and choose the "Open DVD" option. When your DVD loads, its chapters will appear in the middle of your screen in list form.
- 3). Select all the chapters you want converted.
- 4). Hit the "Profile" drop-down button and choose one of the video preset options. (For AVI or MP4 conversions, check in the "Common Video" sub-menu.)
- 5). Set your picture size--based on your device--by clicking "Tools" and selecting "Bitrate Calculator." Choose a video size from the drop-down list of options.
- 6). Click the "Browse..." button next to the "Destination" field to choose a save location for your converted video.
Hit "Start Ripping" to begin your conversion.
