Great Home Entertainment Gift Ideas for Grads

If you are Looking for a gift to give to your favorite Grad, check out some great choices in several home theater-related product categories.


1. Vizio 40-inch E40-C2 LED/LCD Smart TV


TVs always make great graduation gifts, and the Vizio 40-inch E40-C2 is definitely a one to consider. This TV only weighs about 16 pounds - However, don't let the light weight full you. 2. RCA LRK28G30RQD TV/DVD Combo With Pre-Installed Roku Streaming Stick


The RCA LRK28G30RQD is a 28-inch LED-backlit flat panel 720p LCD TV combined with a DVD Player that not only offers DVD playback, but can also play CDs, SVCDs, VCDs, and JPEG CDs. This unit is also equipped with additional AV inputs, including two HDMI, one shared composite/component, a USB slot for accessing compatible content from flash drives or digital cameras, and a digital optical audio output for connection to a home theater audio system.

The LRK28G30RQD also comes equipped with a built-in ATSC/QAM tuner, which allows direct reception of the digital over-the-air and digital unscrambled cable channels. An added bonus is the inclusion of a pre-installed Roku Streaming Stick that allows access to over 2,000 internet streaming channels (depending on location).

Note: The pre-installed Roku Streaming Stick uses one of the available two HDMI inputs.

One additional convenience is that the a analog audio output also doubles as a headphone jack. With its modest size and basic features, this unit may be a good option for your home theater setup.

3. Panasonic DMP-BDT270 Blu-ray Disc Player


Here is a great gift idea to reward your favorite grad. Blu-ray Disc players are a great, and very affordable, entertainment option. The DMP-BDT270 is an inexpensive Blu-ray Disc player that definitely offers a lot for the price. First off the DMP-BDT270 plays both 2D and 3D Blu-ray discs (3DTV needed for 3D playback), DVDs, and CDs and can upscale DVDs to 1080p and DVDs or Blu-ray Discs to 4K via its HDMI output (NOTE: There are no other video or audio outputs except HDMI).

Also, with both built-in Ethernet and WiFi connectivity options, the DMP-BDT270 can access Profile 2.0 internet content related to some Blu-ray Disc releases, as well as the content streamed from Netflix, CinemaNow, and Vudu.

The DMP-BDT270 also has a front mounted USB port for access to media content stored on USB flash drives. You can even access media content stored your PC, as well as Miracast for direct wireless streaming from compatible portable devices.

4. Vivitek Qumi Q7 Pico Projector


Here is a great graduation gift idea: a video projector!

The Vivitek Qumi Q7 is a very compact DLP Pico projector that has a 720p (1280x800) native display resolution, supported by an LED light source instead of a lamp, so there is very little heat generated or power required to run it. Also, since there are no lamps, the light source will last up to 30,000 hours, which definitely reduces long term operating cost.

Unfortunately, the Q7 can't put out as much light as a larger home theater projector, but for its size, it 800 lumens light output, complemented by a 30,000:1 contrast ratio (full on/full off), produces a pretty good image on a 60 or 80-inch screen in a dark room (image size range 29 to 107-inches) - so it can provide a big screen viewing experience in a smaller room.

The iPod may be the most successful portable entertainment device ever, including the creation of a whole industry just devoted to iPod accessories, but that isn't all that Steve Jobs has up his entertainment sleeve. AppleTV is definitely a serious contender world of network media players. The AppleTV allows you either wired or wireless connection to your home network, access to iTunes music and both SD and HD video content directly from the internet. 6. Roku Streaming Stick for HDMI


Apple TV might be a great way to stream video from the internet, especially if you an iPhone, iPad, or iPod user, but it requires that you connect an external box to your TV to access all that streaming content. For $299 or less, the Yamaha RX-V377 home theater receiver offers a lot for those starting put together a basic home theater system. Features include a powerful 5.1 channel amplifier, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, decoding for Blu-ray Discs. There is also a front panel USB port for connection of USB flash drives or Apple devices, such as an iPhone, iPod, or iPad. The SCENE function allows preset or customized listening and viewing modes. Another great feature is Silent Cinema, which allows you to listen to surround sound using any set of headphones. This is great for late night viewing when you don't want to disturb others in the house or your neighbors. To make speaker setup easy, Yamaha includes its offers the YPAO speaker setup system.

9. Monoprice 10565 Premium 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System


The Monoprice 10565 home theater speaker system is a surprisingly good sounding compact speaker system that makes a great gift for that special grad.

The 10565 a full 5.1 channel speaker system that consists of center and four satellite bookshelf speakers, combined with a 8-inch powered subwoofer, all featuring a black matte finish. The connections on the center and satellite speaker are the easy-to-use spring loaded push in type, and both line-in and speaker terminal connections are provided on the subwoofer.

10. Pyle PSBV600BT Wave Base Under-TV Audio System


Does your grad already have a TV, but would like a sound system to go with it? Here is a convenient-no hassle space-saving way to get better sound for that TV without having to spend money on a home theater receiver and lots of speakers.
