• The Yaesu FT-817ND is a portable transceiver that can work as both a receiver and transmitter. The device is based on the FT-81. It covers the HF, VHF, and UHF bands. • The Yaesu FT-817ND can receive radio signals in the ranges of 100 kHz to 30 MHz, 50 MHz to 54 MHz, 76 MHz to 108 MHz (WFM only) and 87.5 MHz to 108 MHz (EU), 108 MHz to 154 MHz (USA), 144 MHz to 148 (146) MHz (other markets) and 430 (420) MHz to 450 (440) MHz. As a transmitter, it can send signals at frequencies of 160 to 6 m, including 60 m, 2 m, 70 cm. The U.S. version can also transmit signals at the 5.1675 MHz Alaska Emergency Frequency.
  
  

Emission Modes, Synthesizer Steps and Frequency Stability

• The Yaesu FT-817ND features numerous emission modes, including A1 (CW), A3 (AM), A3J (LSB/USB), F3 (FM), F1 (9600 bps packet), and F2 (1200 bps packet). The transmitter syntheses signals at steps of 10 Hz in the frequency range of CW/SSB and 100 Hz in the AM/FM range. When operated from one to 60 minutes, the frequency stability stands at ± 4 ppm, or pulse position modulation. After power is on for a longer period of time, the frequency stability increases to 1 ppm per hour at 25 degrees Celsius.
  
  

Supply Voltage and Current Consumption

• The unit can be powered by either a AA Alkaline Cells 12-volt battery or a 9.6-volt Ni-Cd battery pack. It needs about 8 to 16 volts, negative ground voltage. The Yaesu FT-817ND has a current consumption of about 250 mA when squelched. When working as a receiver, it consumes 450 mA. The device requires 2 A to transmit signals.
