- 1). Remove the battery from the phone. The battery usually is on the back of the phone. Sometimes the battery is the back of the phone, secured by a sliding latch or button. Other cell phones secure the battery behind a battery door that slides into place or closes with a clasp or button.
- 2). Remove the battery from the phone. SIM cards usually are behind the battery or in a slot where they are secured in place by the battery.
- 3). Examine the battery compartment for the SIM card. The card is about the size of a fingernail, larger than the micro SD card used for additional memory in phones, but smaller than the SD cards used by cameras. It is shaped like a rectangle with one of the corners cut off.
