A Look at the iPhone 3.0
Are you ready to ditch that version 2 iPhone (if so ring me, I still need to upgrade from 1.0!)? Patience may be the key word, but not too much, it's due out sometime this summer. Many avid iPhone users are already clamoring to be the first on their block to have the latest and greatest from Apple.
One of the biggest features to be added will be copy and paste functionality. Simply double tap on the text you want to copy, highlight the selected area and drop it into a notes pad. This appears to be done as simple as in any Word document (yes I noticed the mix of metaphors between Apple and Microsoft), tapping functions appear to be the same as with the earlier iPhone versions.
Multi-media service (MMS) is still clunky for Apple, this may be the one area they are really behind on. They are working through bug issues which slow down the system or crash it all together. You have to wonder what it is about the iPhone that makes this such a technical issue.
Much like the Mac OS v10 with Spotlight you will be able to perform a system wide live search. Simply start typing a word and will immediately see applications that contain the letters you typed.
Apple will be sure to wow us with even more great gadgets within the new iPhone 3.0 release. Directly from Apple's website they state, "On March 17, Apple presented the blueprint for iPhone OS 3.0, the next version of the world's most advanced mobile platform. In addition to previewing its innovative features, Apple gave members of the iPhone Developer Program immediate access to the iPhone OS 3.0 software beta and an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) with over 1,000 completely new APIs."
So expect lots of new applications to come out with the release of the next version, as stated above third party developers have access to software beta and an updated SDK. Hopefully, with this release Apple will continue to make leaps with the technology, cover up a few of the short comings and start to put even more distance between them and the competition.
