- 1). Buy an FM transmitter unit from your local electronics store. The unit does not have to be proprietary to your iPod, since it plugs into the 3.5 mm RCA jack on the top of the unit. Any FM transmitter made for MP3 players will suffice for this application.
- 2). Plug the large end of the FM transmitter into your car's cigarette lighter or power outlet.
- 3). Plug the small end of the FM transmitter into the RCA 3.5 mm jack located at the top of your iPod, directly above the screen.
- 4). Set the transmitter and your car stereo's head unit to the same radio frequency. Make sure that the radio frequency is one that is not used by a local radio station.
- 5). Turn the volume on your iPod halfway up and the volume on your car's stereo to a lower level. This allows adjustability and helps prevent distortion.
