How to Play iPod Files on Windows Media Player
- 1). Set your iPod in Disk Mode. You can turn this mode on from the iPod's options in iTunes when the iPod is connected to a computer, or manually. To manually set Disk Mode, switch the hold switch to the On position, and then off. Press the middle button and the "Menu" button until the Apple logo appears. Release the "Menu" button and hold the "Play" button, while keeping the middle button depressed. The iPod screen will confirm Disk Mode is enabled.
- 2). Connect the iPod to a Windows PC using the included USB connection/charging cable. The iPod should display a "Do Not Disconnect" message.
- 3). Open the Control Panel and choose the "Folder Options" icon. Depending on your version of Windows, you may need to select Classic View, or click on "Appearance" before selecting the icon.
- 4). Click the "View" tab and scroll down through the "Advanced Settings" section. Click the radio button labeled "Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives." Click "Apply" to save the changes.
- 5). Open Windows Media Player and select "Open" from the file menu. If the File menu does not appear, press the "Alt" button to access it.
- 6). Navigate to "My Computer" and open the iPod's icon. Open the "Ipod_Control" folder, which appears as a faded folder to indicate it's hidden property, then the "Music" folder.
- 7). Open folders within the "Music" directory to access the iPod's music and video files. The files will not appear according to their album, artist or song names, but rather according to four-letter codes. Windows Media Player will read the media information after importing, and the files will appear in Media Player as they appeared in the iPod's interface.
