Information on Weed & Feed Fertilizers

    Types

    • Weed and feed fertilizers can be formulated either for warm or cool season grasses. Select the correct type of fertilizer for your grass.

    Ingredients

    • Weed and feed fertilizers include nitrogen, potash and phosphate to encourage the growth and health of your grass. They also contain herbicides to kill weeds.

    Considerations

    • Most weed and feed fertilizers do not kill crabgrass. If you want to eliminate crabgrass, look for a weed and feed fertilizer that contains a crabgrass pre-emergent.

    Time Frame

    • Apply weed and feed fertilizers in the spring; more applications may be required in late spring or summer.

    Warning

    • Herbicides and pesticides, including those found in weed and feed formulas, can be harmful to children, pets and the environment.
