How to Take Apart an iPod Shuffle
- 1). Slide the Apple iPod Shuffle's hold switch (located on the back of the iPod Shuffle case) to the top position. Slip the edge of the utility knife's blade under the hold switch and pull up slightly to pop the switch out of the casing.
- 2). Pull out the internal USB electronics on the bottom of the iPod. The USB piece is used to sync the Shuffle with your computer. Use the utility knife to loosen the glue that holds the USB plug to the Shuffle's case. Once the glue is sufficiently loosened, pull gently. The USB piece will pop out. Do not remove completely as the piece is attached to the iPod Shuffle's internal hardware by a piece of cable. Do not break this cable.
- 3). Pull the plastic end cap off of the bottom of the iPod Shuffle. Use your forefinger to carefully reach inside the casing and slide out the internal drive, leaving the external casing of the Shuffle empty.
- 4). Observe the internal mechanisms. The iPod Shuffle's battery can be seen on the right edge of the metal slide, while the Shuffle's buttons can be seen where the buttons on the external casing would be. If you wish, you may remove the battery from the metal slide by cutting the wires that hold it down.
- 5). Throw away the pieces of the iPod Shuffle. Follow local regulations and laws regarding the disposal of electronic devices. If you are unsure where to throw away electronic devices, contact your county office.
